IELTS WRITING TASK (please evaluate)

QUESTION:
Despite health warnings, a large number of people continue to smoke all over the world. Why should we concerned about it? What solutions would you suggest?

ANSWER:
Smoking already became a trend nowadays among people most specially the youths. Once a person starts smoking, it would be very difficult to remove it. Why? This is because smoking already became a hobby for smokers. As of the moment almost 10 million of the population all over the world is smoking. Because of the growing numbers of smokers all over the world, health organizations begin to spread their words of warnings to all smokers including the different illnesses and diseases they could suffer later because of smoking. But despite of these warnings, smokers are having hard time to totally quit smoking.

Smokers can be categorized to three: light smokers, moderate smokers, and lastly heavy smokers. Light smokers are those people who only smoke occasionally such as attending to important events or gatherings. Meanwhile, moderate smokers are considered to be smoking once a day and can consume 1-2 stick of cigarette per day. Lastly, heavy smokers are considered those who can consume 1 or more packs per day.

Being a light, moderate or heavy smoker can considerably have a great effect on how a person will perceive these warnings. Light smokers has higher chance of eradicating smoking out of their day to day life since they only smoke during special occasions. Meanwhile, moderate smokers have also chance to totally remove smoking. Since they only smoke once per day, they can gradually reduce the stick of cigarette they consume by once per week. Moderate smokers also have a higher chance than those who are heavy smokers to understand the risks of smoking. However, for those heavy smokers, it will be quite difficult for them to quit smoking since they already consider smoking as a part of their food intake and routine for the day. No matter how you explain to them the danger of smoking, they wouldn’t stop on smoking.

As a nurse and part of the health team, a lot of patients suffering from chronic pulmonary disorders are heavy smokers. And even if they are already diagnose with life threatening diseases caused by smoking, they still resort to smoking as a relaxation. Like what I had mentioned, smoking became a hobby for them already and is already a part of their day to day life. Eradicating it would be really difficult so as this will be a big concern to everyone as not only them who are actually smoking but also those who are around them. The only way we can help them quit smoking is by consistently giving them health teachings regarding the risks and dangers of smoking. We can help them eradicate smoking by gradually reducing the sticks of cigarette they consume until they will no longer find the cigarette on their pockets. We can also inform them on the alternatives of smoking such when they have the urge to smoke, they would simply close their and remind themselves about the possible events that will happen once they smoke again.

GOODBYE 2015! WELCOME 2016!

Another year is about to begin. Year 2015 was a really great year for me and for my family.

First, let's kick off enumerating the blessings I had received for myself for the year 2015.

January 23, 2015, the greatest and biggest blessing I ever had was when I became an official REGISTERED NURSE of the Republic of the Philippines! That was the happiest moment of my entire 20 years of life! After 4 years of studying nursing curriculum, 7 months of reviewong and preparing, and 2 months of waiting, ALAS, the result of the November 2015 Nursing Licensure Examination was released and MY NAME WAS LISTED! I couldn't have been more happier than I was those moments. Another thing, I celebrated my victory with my whole family including my newly met cousins from Canada.

February 16, 2015, when all of the new nurses in the entire Philippines took our official oath as Registered Nurses! We oath to render the best nursing care to all kinds of patients. We oath to obey the nursing law of the Philippines. We oath to share our knowledge and skills to our health care colleagues and built a trusting teamwork with other health care professionals.

April 27, 2015, when I officially started my duties and responsibilities as a health care professional and practice my chosen professsion as a Nurse. It was in The Black Nazarene Hospital, Inc. At first, I thought everything would be easy. For the first few days, few months, everything went smoothly. But July (my birth month) kicked in, everything became a shattered of anger and disappoinments. Yes, it was true, you could learn a lot from the hospital because of its level of toxicity, but the main problem was manpower. We were just few nurses, in a ward there were only 2 nurses with a maximum of 20 patients. The patients' toxic cases varies, either a pre-op or post-op cases, patients' having elevated blood pressures or hyperthermia, patients' who are in labor, etc. But because it was general ward, that was obvious. Another thing, the manpower themselves. It was my first time to experience a person twisted me with his words. He backlashed me because his position was higher than me. But I do not want to elaborate on that more. But then again, I would really like to thank TBNH for letting me experience a lot of things and I believe, working in their institution helped me a lot in developing my nursing skills!

August 29, 2015, the day I entered my new work. A new environment with new people. I thought it would be hard to adjust with the whole scenario but I was able to adjust immediately. I again developed my skills in working in Gaoat General Hospital that my previous workplace would have not let me experience. One great example, insertion of IV catheter and mastering it. Though I am still in the middle profesionally mastering it, I can say at least I am already in the average stage. With my new workplace, I decided my future already, I decided of my next 2 years in life. I will be staying in GGH for a year or 2, that depends if they would hire me as a staff nurse before the half of the year 2016 ends of before I reached my 1 year stay there. The only sure thing is, I will be already out of the country and working either in London or New York by 2018. As of now, I am enjoying my stay in GGH and learning and developing my skills more.

Now time for the blessings for my family. First, my older sister finally became a REGISTERED PHARMACISTS! She tried 3 times and failed 2 times, but finally for her 3rd try, she passed the January 2015 Pharmacy Licensure Examination. Her name was listed when the results were poated last January 21, 2015.

Last but not deifinitely not the last and least of our enormous blessings was when Lord finally answered our prayers. Our little handsome warrior would be undergoing Liver Transplant this January 2016 and I couldnt't wait to see him comeback healthy. I know this may be is just the beginning of his new challenge but I know he is a strong baby and he would come back to us healthy body and mind.

2016 kicked off with a great start and I would never let it to become shattered. To everyone, let us all enjoy the bew blessings of the year!

SPIRITUAL RETREAT

Insights of the Activity

Retreat is the activity I’ve looked forward to. I’ve been in a great spiritual distress since the death of my father 2 years ago and I can say I’m still a prisoner of his unexpected death up to this time. He became my best friend though I only knew about this at the latter part of his life before the Lord has taken him. I questioned the Lord why. Why of all the evil people in this idiopathic world, why did He take my father who always helps other people at his utmost power and strength under His name? I have unknowingly lost my faith in Him. But through the years, with the help of one of my Anatomy and Physiology teacher who I remember to be in another country already, I have understand why He got my father away from us. Even though I am still haunted by the pain brought by his death I have recollected myself in front of his Holy Home under His Holy Name and seek for forgiveness. I’ve seek for another chance to bring back my faith to Him and may He guide me in the future. But problems and conflicts are always around the corner. Because the pain I’m experiencing, I lost myself.
I began to realize I do not know who I am already. I began to apprehend I do not know what my future is already. My clear visions of my future became blurry and corrupted in total darkness. I started to ask myself, what is the real meaning of my life? What is the real reason of my existence? Why do I live? Able to save lives was and will always be a part of my future. But why do I face failures? If I really wanted to save the human kinds who live in this devilish world, why do I need face failures? I seek for answers and guidance of the Lord but still I do not have anything to say to myself.
The retreat activity of our Elective subjects somehow helped me to find some answers. Father Bunoan told us God is the only being who is perfect. And so I say, mistakes come to every human kind and I am no exemption to that. I then realize failures come to us to test us to either fight these failures or gave up our life because of these failures. The activity The Cycle of Life made us share to our group mates the things that reflect our personality and I’ve chosen two things, a Cage and a Book. Why? I guess what I told my group mates were because I am a close person. I am a person who doesn’t share feelings unless they asked me too or an activity like that was being facilitated. I am a cage being a howl of feelings. I’ve only learned to listen and keep silent when someone is telling his/her feelings to me and give advices if he/she asked me to. But I am more than that yet I can’t voice it out and this is only a proof that being a close person is an attitude no one or nothing can remove. Though this is a value I can’t remove, my art of listening and silence is something I can offer to my patients in the future.  A book because is what changes me. These books helped me to know who I am and to find my future.
Another activity that made my tears flow freely on my cheeks is The Circles of Love. Though I am little bit disappointed because we weren’t able to finish our sharing due to time constraints, I am still glad to this activity. I have known deeper the new people I am mingling with for the past 4 months. Because I am new to the group, thanks to our coordinator who randomly picked me to transfer in section A, I have the chance to know a lot of new individuals with unique personalities and people with different miseries of life. I relate to them very much because one of them shared the same pain brought about by the death of our loved ones. The affirmation we got from each other relieved me from all the negative vibes I have in my heart. The group sharing was the funniest activity of all. Though all of us were tired because of the swollen eyes due to heavy tears run through our soft cheeks, it was still memorable. Thanks to the clowns of each group most especially to the clowns of Section A whom I guess were drunk with the aid of the tears.
The next activity was the most memorable one for me. I’ve halted my mind to think and just let those stupid tears to flow. The Individual Prayer Activity is an activity that let us talk to God. It is an activity that allows the God to affirm us and to accept Him in our hearts. And this is why I’ve cried a lot. I have made my own individual prayer before but I’ve realize that God is waiting for me. Brother Rene made us wrote a letter to our parents who have sacrificed for us as what His beloved Son has sacrificed to cleanse the humanities sins. And I have gained all the thoughts I have in mind just to write a special letter to my mother revealing all of my emotions towards her including the pain I still experience from my father’s death. I do hope if she ever read about it, she will understand everything. The last day was melodramatic yet fun because I know all of us were relieved and enlightened. All of us will surely bring the memories and values we have learned for us to deliver a more quality nursing care to our patients.
A value that I have learned from this retreat is to become a person. A person according to Father Bunoan in the simplest definition is a being in relation. I can truly apply this to my practice of being a nurse because nurses only not deliver a physical care but also a mental, psychological, social and spiritual care. Staying with the patient, listening to their concerns silently, letting them verbalize their feelings and attending to their needs are things that can satisfy a nurses’ responsibility and heart. And these are what I can do them.
If there is something that needs improvement in this retreat or Youth Encounter activity are the facilitators. Not to seem rude because at times I am also nervous in front of a hundred people talking but they needed to improve their skills in lecturing directly. Even if you are nervous your composure should not be affected. Just be who you are despite of the anxiety. Yet I am still glad that they deliver their lectures good and that they gave their fullest effort to make the Youth Encounter worth memorable to everyone of us.
A recommendation that I can suggest to the level coordinator is to make this Retreat activity longer, 3 days at minimum. For me, 2 days is a little bit exhaustive. The facilitators told that they usually do the Youth Encounter at a maximum of 4 days and that because we were only given 2 days for this activity,  they needed to adjust the schedule and compressed all the sessions. The activity in totally is worthy, fun and memorable but because of the limited time, we needed to adjust and become sleepless heads. I just wish that the next batch that will experience this activity will not be weary and tired and they will feel a total relaxation in the hands of God. Thank you Ma’am!
